Relationship between Tangential Stress and Decoupling Index

  • As decoupling index increases, tangential stress decreases on the hole wall.
  • Consistent tangential stress is maintained when decoupling ratio is 1:1.
  • The blasting velocity and pressure is slow and low in the air than in substance.
  • When the charging length is long, higher blasting velocity explosive can be used to prevent blasting failure due to channel effect.
  • Decoupling index of 1.5~2 is applied for smooth blasting.
  • Decoupling index increases as blasting rock is harder and sound while decreases as it is softer and fractured.
